Important Information about Posting Photographs The one problem with a free forum is that we do have limited space here for attachments. There are already a LOT of pictures posted here (in the projects forum etc) and we are using up 7mb of the 200mb of space provided to us. I'm not saying don't post pictures, by all means, go ahead and do so, I love seeing them! But once we start running out of space for them, older posts with photographs will probably have to have their photos deleted. Especially ones such as prayer kids that are not longer available, etc. Note: If you upload a photo elsewhere, such as your own blog, or tinypic, etc, instead of adding it as an attachment or photo, it will not take up space and will not have to be deleted, but this is totally up to you The only other option is to pay for an increase of space, but this is not something I can afford to do at the moment. So go ahead and post photos, but please don't be offended if the photos in some of your older posts get deleted on occasion when we run out of room. And if you've posted photos that no longer need to be up (like the expired prayer kids etc.) and can remember to delete the photo from your posts yourself, that'd be super helpful as well Moderators: If you need to know how to delete photos from time to time, feel free to fire me a PM and I'll let you know, but it's in the Manage Attachments section of the Admin panel. Thanks!

I can see we are easily going to run out of room real quick. The other thing that will help is to resize our pics before uploading. 96dpi works fine for web viewing. That way we can save more of our pics before having to delete them. We can also use something like Google Drive. It is super easy to set up your own account. Just sign up for a free gmail account, then click on ' drive' - upload your pic in there and then paste the link on the forum. Too easy! From memory, I think it gives you about 15GB. That's what I use for my blog freebies. It saves chewing up the limited amount of room on the blog. I think of it as my store room out the back.

I loaded mine using the link from photo bucket.. does that add up in the grand total of picture space used?

I believe so donnak, it uses it if you can see the photos in the post, if you have to click on a link to view the image on photobucket when it opens, instead of viewing it directly in the post, then it will not count as used space.

For sure I'll be using tinypic.com from now on then. It is super easy and you don't have to sign up or anything. Think I'll put a shortcut on my desktop for it. Thanks for the heads up, Teresa Dawn!

Hmm...I was under the impression that photobucket type pictures were OK, and that space is only used by photos uploaded directly to the Proboards forums. I'm sorry to hear that's not the case. Teresa Dawn, did the removal of Donna's pictures change anything space-wise? If it made a significant difference, perhaps I should go back and change some of my photos to links instead of inserting the images. Donna, I hope you kept your photos in the form of a link! You had so many good ones to share!
Edited to add: Donna, even after you removed your photos, we are still using 7/200 mb of space, so I don't think your pictures were causing any major space issues. Also, none of my pictures or the ones that Donna still has up (which were all inserted using an IMG code) are listed in the attachments area as using any space. However, the ones uploaded directly to this message board, such as some of the Project Information posts and some Prayer Children and Child Update posts are listed. I really think that Photobucket pictures are OK since they're not being hosted directly by Proboards.
I hope no one reads this and feels like I'm saying that everyone needs to remove pictures from posts that are already there or never attach pictures to posts! I'm just thinking that, for the future, it seems like Photobucket, tinypic, etc. are better options than attaching pictures directly to your posts IF you want to keep the photo on the board long-term, such as with the Project Information posts.

Christina, that is strange, but the ones I have uploaded in the threads Looking for a sponsor for Alizeta and Vinesh, are hosted on Tinypic and seem to be using quite a bit of space as they are listed on the manage attachments page... but clearly we can still host over 10x more pictures before we have to start deleting old ones and I think if we are careful the limit will be fine We'll have to watch the number and see how often it goes up to monitor what is counting

Hmm, I'm really not sure, but none of my DR project pictures or Donna's DR pictures are listed in the attachments area, and they're Photobucket images. I also just did a test thread using a tinypic image, and that didn't show up as an attachment either.
But you're right, the time to worry about having to delete photos is still very far away! :-)

Wait, I have it attached as a tinypic AND an attachment for some reason, just noticed that, no clue how I did it haha! Let me delete the attachment version and see what happens. Update: That solved it!

Makes sense to me, especially to delete the pictures of prayer children who are no longer available.

Can someone let me know where we stand on adding photos to the Project Information board ? I hope to be able at some point to post some TZ project photos there but haven't had a chance to yet nor have I ever used Photobucket or Tiny Pic before. Are those still the recommended ways to post photos of projects to be left on the board for general reference going forward?

Yes, it looks like TinyPic or Photobucket will be fine for putting photos on the Project Information board. There are pros and cons to each. You will need to create an account if you use Photobucket, but you can upload lots of photos at once. If you use TinyPic, you don't need an account, but can only upload one picture at a time.

Another idea is to go ahead and post as many pics as you want, but also the LINK if you have one. That way, when we eventually have to delete them after a while, there is still a link to click on if people want to still see them.

My personal opinion is that the priority should be to keep the project photos as long as possible. Child updates and Prayer children photos could be deleated after a time. If we can encourage everyone to use links instead of attachments, hopefully it will be a long time before we get close to the limit.

I agree Gail, and unless we go over the limit with project photos only we should keep those ones. If we have to cut back on them, maybe we could delete a couple from each thread that doesn't use photobucket, tinypic, instead of all from one thread or something... but if most upload with tinypic or any other site, we shouldn't have a problem.

I do think though that you should set up a donate button to help with expenses. I'm sure some people would donate and it would help out some.

I was just checking how our photo space is going. We are up to 11MB (out of 200). Most photos seem to be under 100KB which is pretty good (well done everybody who is thinking about this), but there are quite a few well over... some up to 753KB. If everyone can please keep that in mind, when uploading pics. That way, we can make it stretch a bit before we have to start to remove them. At least the photo sizes are itemised in the admin section, so we know exactly where we can easily add more space in a hurry if we need to, I guess. Fortunately the quality of a pic for online viewing only needs to be around 50 - 100 KB or so. Sometimes much less is still quite fine.
